It’s that time of year again! We may have already seen snow fall, but the holiday season has now officially arrived! If you haven’t started decking the halls in your Alaskan home just yet, you can certainly start penciling in your calendar with the following festive events in the Fairbanks and North Pole area.
Being so close to one of the most festive locales—North Pole—you can be assured there is no shortage of holiday-themed activities for the month of December and as your local real estate experts, we’re happy to share a few of them with you!
Christmas in Ice
When: December 3-January 6, 2016
Sunday through Thursday, 11 AM to 10 PM; Friday and Saturday, 11 AM to 11 PM
Where: 125 Santa Claus Lane, North Pole AK
This 6-week-long winter ice park is located right next to Santa Claus’ house in North Pole! There will be Christmas-themed ice art competition sculptures, ice slides, a maze, ice carving training and demonstrations, kids crafts and Elf’s Icy Playground. All month long, holiday-themed events will take place in the ice park, including an Amateur Carving Event, Junior Ice Carving Competition, Mayors Competition and New Year’s Eve Spectacular!
When: December 4-6, 2015; 8 PM
Where: Hering Auditorium, Lathrop High School, Fairbanks AK
This weekend, the North Star Ballet will perform the annual production of The Nutcracker at Hering Auditorium. Following the matinee performance on Saturday, children will be able to meet various dancers of the show in costume, collect autographs, take photos and receive a special treat in the “Land of the Sweets.” Passports to the Land of the Sweets can be purchased at the ticket booth on the day of the Saturday show. There will also be a silent auction and Nutcracker Boutique in the lobby of all performances.
North Pole Winter Festival
When: December 5, 2015
Where: North Pole Plaza Mall, North Pole AK
The perfect place for all ages to kick off the holiday season! This year’s North Pole Winter Festival will feature fireworks, a holiday bazaar, tree and candle lighting ceremonies, caroling and crowning of the North Pole King and Queen.
Experience the Yuletide Light Luminary Trail
When: December 5, 2015, 6 PM to 8 PM
Where: Creamer’s Field, Fairbanks AK
Experience the holiday spirit as you listen to carolers, sip hot chocolate and eat cookies, huddle around a campfire and walk down Creamer’s Field Luminary Trail.
Annual Alyeska Pipeline Celebration of Lights
When: December 19, 2015; 8 PM
Where: Downtown Fairbanks, Fairbanks AK
The annual Celebration of Lights fireworks show will begin at 8 PM in downtown Fairbanks and can be viewed from Golden Heart Plaza, William Random Wood Centennial Bridge and Immaculate Conception Church. Fairbanks will come alive to celebrate the solstice with musical and artistic events held downtown. Holiday decorations like lit-up snowflakes can also be viewed at Golden Heart Plaza.
